Implant Restorations

Dental implants are some of the most popular tooth replacement procedures available. Implants are incredibly beneficial and can keep your teeth, gums, and jaw healthy while providing a functional, natural-feeling restoration. At Semans Family Dentistry, we can help you understand the benefits of dental implants, plan your procedure, and provide maintenance to keep your new teeth bright and healthy for a lifetime.

What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are small titanium rods that act as posts for prosthetic teeth. To install a dental implant, your oral surgeon will make a small incision in your gums and surgically attach the implant post to your jaw bone. Over time, your jaw bone will grow around the metal and permanently hold it in place. In addition to providing support to prosthetic teeth, this process stimulates bone growth and prevents erosion.

Your mouth will take anywhere from four to six months to fully heal from the initial surgery. Once the implants are stable and your gums have fully healed, it will be time to install your new teeth. We can use dental implants to support bridges, dentures, and crowns. Patients who choose dental implants over other replacement options often find that their new teeth feel sturdier and more natural.

Who Will Install My Implants?

To begin your procedure, Dr. Semans will conduct a thorough examination of your teeth, gums, and oral structure. Not everyone is a candidate for dental implants – you will need to have healthy gums and bones to undergo this procedure. If Dr. Semans determines that your mouth is strong enough for implants, he will refer you to a local oral surgeon.

Our team will help you plan your entire procedure – from start to finish. Whether you need one implant installed or a full set, we are here to help you throughout this process. You can rest assured that you will receive outstanding care before, during, and after your surgery.

How Do I Care for My Implants at Home?

After your initial procedure, your oral surgeon will give you specific instructions for the upcoming months. If you begin experiencing high levels of pain or find that your gums are becoming swollen or infected, please call us immediately.

Once your prosthetic teeth are in place, it is important to care for them the same way you would for your natural teeth. Brush and floss twice daily with a soft-bristled brush, and avoid chewing on extremely hard or chewy foods. If your new tooth or implant becomes damaged, please let us know as soon as possible.
