Fostering Indepence Inc., founded in 2016 by Cecilia O'Donnell, was created after her passion for helping young adults after being made aware for this service by Summit County. Fostering Independece currently serves Summit County youth who are aging out of the foster care system. Generally, at age 18, assistance and custodial rights cease and many foster teens are left to fend for themselves. Dr. Tom decided we should help in any way we can. So a huge thank you to all who brought generous donations to our office in support of Fostering Independence! In addition to collecting $1,600, a number of dorm supplies were also donated. Your generosity will help many young adults "aging out" of foster care obtain their much needed supplies!
We would also like to say congratulations to patient Tom D. Tom was chosen as the winner of a Sonicare toothbrush for donating to our campaign. Thank you Tom, we hope your new Sonicare keeps your smile bright!
South Street Ministries, founded in 1997 by Duane and Lisa Crabbs, is located at 798 Grant Street Akron, Ohio. It provides programs for the poorer residents of South Akron and Summit Lake. The major programs of South Street include after-school tutoring, summer youth camp, urban gardening, bike shop, and youth sports scholarships. South Street also provides pastoral counseling, emergency food and shelter assistance, and employment training.
Currently, the youth enrolled in the programs earn points for attendance, good behavior, completing homework, etc. The points are converted to South Street dollars for them to buy Christmas gifts for their family. For two years in a row, our office has supported South Street Ministries Christmas Store by collecting a variety new, unwrapped items suitable for kids, teens, and adults to donate to the Christmas store. All patients who donated items to this wonderful non-profit organization received a $10.00 credit towards their next appointment. Our office also matched all monetary donations up to $500.00.
